Control Theory Special Interest Group
Chair | Dr. Warren Mansell |
Secretary | Dr. Tim Carey |
Treasurer | Chris Spratt |
The overarching aims of a Control Theory SIG would be as follows:
- To facilitate the dissemination, discussion and evaluation of control theory explanations of psychological distress, in particular the use of Perceptual Control Theory (Powers, 1973, 2005).
- To facilitate the training and dissemination of therapeutic approaches that are based on control theory approaches, such as Method of Levels and CBT for rumination (Watkins, 2007).
Initially, we would set the following objectives in order to reach these aims:
1. An online jiscmail discussion group
2. A meeting every year on the Tuesday preceding the Annual BABCP conference
3. Regular contributions of workshops and symposia to the Annual BABCP conference
4. Members would submit regular articles on their work to the BABCP publications - CBT Today, Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy, and The Cognitive Behaviour Therapist
5. Members would facilitate links with appropriate international organisations studying control theory and its therapeutic implications
