FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- What do I need to do to become accredited as a CBT supervisor/trainer?
See the ‘Guide to applying’ for details of the steps involved.
- Can I be accredited as just a CBT supervisor (but not a trainer)?
Yes.
- Can I be accredited as just a CBT trainer (but not a supervisor)?
Yes.
- Do I need to be accredited as a CBT practitioner in order to apply
for accreditation as a supervisor/trainer?
If you are not currently accredited with BABCP as a CBT practitioner
you will need to apply for this type of accreditation at the same time
as you apply for supervisor/trainer accreditation. The necessary documents
are downloadable (see ‘Guide to applying’) There is an additional
fee for this (currently £40) but it is not as great as the fee
for applying for practitioner accreditation alone..
- Which documents do I need to complete?
All applicants must complete the Application form and the Reference
(as a Supervisor/Trainer). In addition, if you are applying for Supervisor
Accreditation you must submit at least two examples of completed Supervisee’s
feedback forms. If also applying for Practitioner Accreditation, you
must submit a Practitioner Application form and two Practitioner Reference
forms.
You need to supply evidence of CPD relevant to CBT supervision and/or
training. You also need to provide quantitative and qualitative evidence
regarding some of the supervision and/or training you have given. If
applying for practitioner accreditation, there is a requirement for evidence
of qualifications and all CBT CPD over the past three years.
Certificates of attendance are evidence of CPD. Written feedback from
the recipients on the quality of CBT supervision/training counts, as
do timetables of CBT teaching provided.
- What counts as CBT clinical supervision?
Individual or group settings are both fine. Recipients can be those
at introductory, intermediate or advanced levels, and on training courses
or not. The key factor is whether the supervision was primarily CBT in
orientation.
- What counts as CBT training?
Any formal CBT teaching counts as training. This can be theoretical
or practical in nature. Again, it does not matter who receives it, as
long as its focus is principally CBT.
- How many hours supervision/training do I need to do?
The minimum requirement for accreditation as a CBT supervisor is the
provision of 80 hours supervision over the past two years. For accreditation
as a CBT trainer it is a minimum of 40 hours over the past two years.
The fee for the initial application is £73. If you are not already Accredited as a practitioner the fee for submitting that application at the same time is £40 (rather than the usual £75). If successful, there
is an annual administration fee thereafter of £21. A website listing
will cost a further £50. Fees correct at 14 March 2008. Do check the current fees before you send
in your application.
- How long will it take to process my application?
If it is straightforward it should take no longer than three months.
If either accreditor dealing with your application has any queries or
concerns they will contact you directly, and this may slow the process
a little.
- Can my accreditation as a CBT supervisor/trainer be listed on the
BABCP website?
This will be available in the near future.
- When do I have to seek re-accreditation?
As with practitioner accreditation, you will need to apply for re-accreditation
after five years. During this period you will need to continue to meet
the necessary criteria for accreditation, e.g. for CPD.
- What happens if my application is unsuccessful?
If you do not meet the necessary criteria for accreditation, it will
be made clear how you can go about rectifying the situation prior to
re-applying, should you wish. This situation can be avoided, however,
if the criteria are examined before applying in the first place (see ‘Guidelines
for applying’).
