Honorary Secretary

Role purpose

  • Organise and manage the Board and National Committees Forum (NCF) meetings in conjunction with the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
  • In consultation with the Board of Trustees, develop the strategic direction of the Association in line with changing circumstances both internally and externally
  • To act as Board lead regarding BABCP human resource strategy, reporting to Board and other critical stakeholders

Desirable skills and experience

  • Commitment to furthering the aims of the Association
  • Experience of chairing meetings and developing policy
  • Able to keep in touch with developments in the practice and theory of CBT
  • Able to keep appraised of challenges to the Association and the practice of CBT (eg implications of NICE Clinical Guidelines, Health and Care Professions Council and Regulatory Frameworks)

Main duties

  • Act as Honorary Secretary to the Board of Trustees – five meetings per year
  • Act as Honorary Secretary to the NCF – two meetings per year
  • Review the minutes and set the agenda for the meetings in conjunction with the President (note the CEO is responsible for recording minutes)
  • Approve the Honorary Secretary’s Report for the AGM (delivered by the CEO)
  • With the President, be responsible for organising the induction of new Board members
  • Chair the Human Resources Committee
  • Attend meetings as directed by the Board
  • As Board lead, work with the CEO to ensure the Association’s employees and volunteers are effectively managed. Coordinate the annual appraisal of the CEO and liaise over human resource management issues where required
  • Write articles for the Association’s membership channels as appropriate

Responsible to

  • The Honorary Secretary will be responsible to the Association members in general and to the Board of Trustees in particular
