As the organisation responsible for Accrediting IAPT High Intensity Therapist training courses and the continued accreditation of HI practitioners once in practice, we consider that effective and safe IAPT services should not only ensure accreditation of training but also continued accreditation of therapists once they have qualified.
Such accreditation provides assurance that clinicians not only remain up to date and have appropriate supervision, but also are governed by appropriate professional standards in addition to those set by services. It also allows people to check accreditation status of individual clinicians. Further details of BABCP accreditation can be found here - www.babcp.com/Accreditation/Accreditation.aspx
Psychotherapy as a profession is not regulated in the UK which makes accreditation of courses and individuals all the more important to ensure high quality, safe, and effective treatment using talking therapies.
