Into the future

At our recent Annual Conference held at Imperial College London, we were delighted to welcome two new Trustees to our Board, as well as our new President, Saiqa Naz.

New Trustees Lee Grant and Liz Ruth join our Board, bringing a wealth of experience in public and private healthcare settings, as well as academia and third sector organisations. We would like to thank outgoing Trustees Colin Blowers and Tom Reeves for the valuable work they have carried out on behalf of BABCP during their time as Board members.

Saiqa Naz (pictured right with Chair of the British Association for Behavioural Psychotherapy in 1974, Professor Isaac Marks) said: “I am delighted to become the BABCP President in this special anniversary year. Thank you to Dr Andrew Beck, who led the Association through the bulk of the Covid pandemic. Thanks also to our Senior Clinical Advisor Dr Lucy Maddox, who has recently moved on to a new challenge.

“Embedding equity into the organisation remains a key priority to ensure CBT in its different forms reaches more diverse communities across the whole of the UK and Ireland, neurodiverse and ethnic minority groups, and those from poorer socioeconomic backgrounds who tend to have poorer outcomes in mental health services.

“I remain committed to diversifying the CBT workforce and this includes supporting workers in Low Intensity settings. I am proud of the contributions our members make to our branch and Special Interest Group network, as well as our member publications, and look forward to supporting the current mentoring initiative offered to new authors. I look forward to the continued support of our members and the public over the next two years and beyond.”
