About the event

This is an online, participative workshop being held on Zoom.  Once you have registered you will be sent instructions on how to join the Zoom Meeting.

This event addresses the issue of acknowledging the impact of trauma within stage 1 DBT using the emotion-focussed formulation used in Comprehend Cope and Connect (CCC) without exploration. The wider issue of incorporating trauma work within DBT will also be covered.

DBT rightly insists that people have the skills to manage overwhelming emotion safely before depth exploration of past trauma. However, simply deferring trauma until later can feel invalidating and prove impractical.  Approaches have been trialled that combine trauma work with DBT. The present approach aims to introduce the trauma-informed, co-produced, formulation used in Comprehend Cope and Connect at the engagement phase of DBT in order to validate the effects of the trauma on present functioning without exploration, and provide a powerful rationale for the skills work to follow.

To consider the ways in which Stage 1 DBT manages the issue of trauma, and review approaches that combine DBT and therapy for PTSD.

To introduce this emotion-focused, trauma-informed way of arriving at a collaboratively co-produced individual formulation that leads naturally to DBT skills work as a way forward.

To provide opportunity to practice the formulation and discuss the concept.

On completion you will be sent a certificate for 5 x hours CPD - 3.5hrs skills and 1.5hrs theory.
