An increasing number of CBT practitioners are working with
clients presenting with Cyberchondriac features. This virtual event will present a
novel model for conceptualising cyberchondria, a variant of health anxiety, and
introduce basic treatment techniques to help clients tackle this behaviour,
including (1) postponement of engagement in cyberchondriac behaviour; (2)
detached mindfulness and attention training; and (3) restructuring of
metacognitive beliefs. Tips on building health awareness protocols will also be
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
In this workshop Professor Spada will: (1) outline how to
identify cyberchondriac behaviour (including tell-tale signs); (2) review the
detrimental impact of this behaviour on physical and mental functioning; and
(3) present basic treatment techniques to help clients overcome this behaviour.
