Online Event - Care in High Volume Session 1: Navigating relationships and therapeutic boundaries

Presented by Elizabeth Ruth & James Spiers

About the event

This is an online, participative event via the Zoom meeting platform.  This session will not be recorded.

In any human to human interaction psychological dynamics exist, yet there is limited focus on how we navigate this within low intensity work. Many of the themes surrounding poor LIT wellbeing appear to stem from the challenges of clinical work with insufficient reflective consideration of interpersonal dynamics within the low intensity supervisory model.

The aim of this session is to explore how LIT workers define/experience the therapeutic alliance and the tripartite relationship between the LIT, the patient and LICBT material within their clinical work.  This workshop aims to consider interpersonal boundaries and the balance between therapeutic complementarity and clinical drift. There will also be a brief and simple introduction to the concept of transference and countertransference and how these principles may be used within supervision to help contain clinical drift, promote ethical practice and reduce the potential for LIT burnout.

Learning Outcomes
1) Improved interest and delivery of care for people who access low intensity interventions from a diverse range of identities and backgrounds.
2) Increased understanding of therapeutic relationships and skills to manage these effectively.
3) Enhanced awareness of the effect of high volume caseloads on staff wellbeing and shared learning to support supervision.
