Overcoming common challenges in parent-led CBT for child anxiety problems

Presented by Cathy Creswell, Chloe Chessell and Gemma Halliday

About the event

This Masterclass webinar will be hosted on Zoom.  A recording of the webinar will be available for delegates to view for 28 days after the live event.

A certificate of attendance will be issued for 1.5 hours CPD (live attendance only).

This masterclass is aimed at practitioners, trainers and supervisors who have experience of parent-led CBT for anxiety problems in pre-adolescent children. We will focus on how to address common challenges in delivering this approach in ways that adhere to the treatment model, including (i) challenges with engaging parents with the approach (e.g. where parents lack parenting efficacy, where the problem is located outside of the home, where parents/carers have competing priorities due to challenging circumstances- including working with looked after children, families who are receiving early help, and in the context of physical health conditions), and (ii) managing parents’ differences of opinion about the nature of the problem and how to manage it.

We will also address common challenges in applying specific techniques, including working with parents to collaboratively identify maintenance cycles and supporting parents to design exposures that effectively test children’s fears.

The session will include opportunities to learn from relevant case examples and to share views and experiences with other attendees.
