How to be an excellent supervisor, from a supervisee's perspective

Presented by Joanne Myers

About the event

This is an online, participative event on the Zoom meeting platform, organised by the Supervision Special Interest Group (SIG).

The event will not be recorded.

A certificate of attendance will be issued for 6 x hours CPD - 4hrs skills and 2hrs theory.

Registration closes - Midday Thursday 1st December. Places are limited though so book early to avoid disappointment.

Joanne Myers; CBT Therapist, CBT Trainer and CBT supervisee, draws on her varied supervisee experiences to facilitate this experiential workshop. Joanne will create a safe space to allow you to reflect on your supervision practise; what’s going well and how you can improve it. By utilising various training and supervision approaches, for example, SP / SR and Deliberate Practise, you will leave the workshop with practical ideas about how you can implement your supervision improvement goals.

Supervision is an integral part of CBT practise and this workshop will focus on the provision of supervision and how excellent supervision can improve the treatment of clients. The experiential nature of the workshop will draw on various CBT skills, for example, encouraging the supervisors to use behavioural experiments themselves.

We will list obstacles we face in providing excellent supervision. Using a range of training approaches, we will address the most difficult topics.

In line with the BAME positive practise guide, we will consider how much we think about culture in supervision; how much are we thinking about the culture differences between supervisors and supervisees and between supervisees and their clients.

You will have an opportunity to reflect on your own experiences of being a supervisor and a supervisee and consider what you value about supervision. From shared reflections, we will collectively discuss what excellent supervision looks like and link this to relevant guidelines and competencies.
