This seminar will consider how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can be used to empower women experiencing health issues, with specific consideration of the gender health inequalities that exist. Too often women’s health experiences are dismissed, and their symptoms are conceptualised as “just anxiety” at which point, women are often recommended CBT.
The seminar will explore how therapists can prevent unconscious collusion with a problematic systemic attitude. It will explain what to look out for in assessments to help advocate for women in the healthcare system. Importantly, the seminar will examine how misapplied aspects in the context of women's health can feed into the narrative and how CBT can be used to validate and empower women in their health journeys.
