IABCP Accreditation

Accreditation is the process by which our organisation can officially recognise someone as being qualified to provide Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy in a range of settings. By accrediting Irish CBT psychotherapists, IABCP will now help to more visibly recognise our members' alignment to European (EABCT) and UK training standards for CBT.

IABCP has launched its new Accreditation Certificate which is available to all IABCP members who hold full BABCP and/or EABCT Accreditation. IABCP members can apply here for the IABCP Accreditation Certificate which costs £30.

For the first 2 years we will be asking all applicants to participate in a survey that will help to define the scope of practice of IABCP accredited members. This will help IABCP to most accurately advocate for our accredited members, on both sides of the border, as the process of statutory registration emerges in the Republic of Ireland.

The parallel process of establishing a Statutory register for psychotherapists will roll out in the Republic of Ireland, over the next 5 years. This will be driven forward by CORU and their primary remit is to protect the public by ensuring high standards of training and professional conduct by those on a future register of Counsellors & Psychotherapists in Ireland.

CORU have indicated that there will be a 2 year “grandparenting” phase, before the register is established, to enable existing CBT psychotherapists to apply to join the initial register.  The IABCP Accreditation Committee will work carefully in the coming years to ensure that those who hold IABCP accreditation will be eligible to join the register of Psychotherapists.

We aim that this Accreditation process will be professional, user-friendly and efficient and we welcome your feedback on the process.
