Independent Practitioners Special Interest Group (IPSIG)

Do you work as an independent CBT practitioner, or might you be thinking about independent practice?

If yes, join the BABCP Independent Practitioners Special Interest Group (IPSIG) which was established in 2003. All members of BABCP are welcome.

The purpose of IPSIG is to represent the interest of full and part-time independent practitioners and to bring matters affecting independent practice to the attention of the Association.

Aims

The aims of the Independent Practitioners Special Interest Group (IPSIG) are to ensure that issues of independent practice, and any problems arising from it, are addressed, and resolved in accordance with the BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics, and the BABCP Complaints Procedure. Any BABCP member can join the IPSIG, with SIG members benefitting from:

  1. Being part of a community.
  2. Meeting with fellow private practitioners from a variety of backgrounds, from those just starting out to those with longer established practices, making connections, and sharing each other’s experiences.
  3. The provision of specialised workshops and Zoom drop-in meetings with topics relating to working in independent practice.
  4. Keeping the IPSIG members up to date with recent developments via our newsletter.
  5. The provision of information in the BABCP Private Practice Guidelines, templates (e.g. contracts) and other items thought useful to assist members to work successfully in independent practice. These will be reviewed periodically.
  6. Networking opportunities to find supervision, regional groups, peers with similar interests or simply support with anything related to working in independent practice via Zoom drop-in meetings.
  7. Working for the interests of the IPSIG membership within the BABCP organisation.
  8. Having a platform that allows SIG members to relay their experiences to the BABCP, and to receive feedback.

BABCP Private Practice Guidelines

In conjunction with members of the IPSIG committee and other BABCP members, the BABCP Private Practice Guidelines was launched in April 2023. This was published with the aim of supporting members who are considering working in private practice. You can find this invaluable guide here.
