Migration and Ethnic Identity

Ikra Hameed

We are psychologists at the University of Oxford looking for volunteers to take part in our research project on migration and ethnic identity, who are:

1) from a Minority Ethnic Background (defined as individuals from all ethnic groups except the white British group. This would include all non-European groups, i.e., Afro-Caribbean/ South Asian etc, as well as white minorities such as Gypsy, Roma, and Irish Traveller groups.
2) Aged 18 years and over
3) Experiencing difficulties with their mood
4) Feeling detached from their ethnic identity.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a migration map intervention for individuals from Diverse Ethnic Communities (DEC). Migration sets in motion processes that can impact people and their identities; therefore, this intervention aims to provide people an opportunity to explore their migration histories through a geographical map. We hope that a visual representation of the migration journey will be a valuable tool to allow individuals to explore links between the migration experience and their current life.
