A validation study of the psychometric properties of the Dissociation-Integration of Self-States Scale (D-ISS) in a clinical sample

Jamie Barton

This research is investigating a new measure of dissociation, the Dissociation-Integration of Self-States (D-ISS). Self-states refer to distinct aspects of an individual's sense of self, often shaped by experiences, emotions and context.

The D-ISS is a theoretically-driven measure of dissociation between self-states, based on a cognitive-behavioural model of dissociation (Kennedy et al., 2004). This measure could be used by clinicians and service users to help assess, formulate and plan for treatment in terms of dissociation at the self-state level.

We are recruiting adult participants, aged 18-65, with a mental health diagnosis or diagnoses. Participants will be asked to complete four anonymous online questionnaires on dissociative experiences and mental health.

Participants can enter a prize draw for 1 of 10 £10 Amazon vouchers. Participants will have the option to complete the same online questionnaires again two weeks later and be entered into an additional prize draw for 1 of 10 £10 Amazon vouchers.

This research has ethical approval from the University of Southampton (ERGO 90495) and the NHS Health Research Authority (IRAS 335221).
