How is EMDR best Conducted and Adapted for Trauma Focused work Within Bipolar Disorder? A Delphi Study

Leeanne Nicholls

My name is Leeanne Nicholls, and I am a Trainee Clinical Psychologist enrolled on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course at the University of Southampton and I am a CBT and EMDR practitioner.

I am hoping to recruit EMDR therapists to participate in my doctoral thesis research project that I am undertaking.

This project explores how ‘EMDR is best conducted and adapted for trauma focused work within bipolar disorder presentations.’

Research has highlighted the clinical necessity to attend traumatic events in bipolar disorder. At present there is limited guidance offered for EMDR therapists to how they should approach the treatment of trauma in bipolar disorder.

This project aims to produce a consensus generated from therapist’s perspectives that will inform and guide clinical practice for trauma work in bipolar disorder.

The research project involves participants taking part in an online survey.

Participants need to be trained in EMDR and have experiences of working with individuals with bipolar disorder using any therapeutic approach.
