Apply for PWP Registration

NHS England mandated that applications for PWP Registration should be submitted by 10 June 2022. Our registration process will remain open after this date, and PWPs can continue to apply. We are currently experiencing a high demand for PWP registrations, which may extend the length of our usual processing time. The link to apply for PWP Registration is at the bottom of this page. Before applying please read the following information.

Criteria for Registration

  1. Be a Standard Rate BABCP member. If you are not currently a Standard Rate BABCP member, your registration fee will include Standard Rate BABCP membership.
  2. Graduation from a British Psychological Society (BPS) Accredited PWP training course/apprenticeship
  3. Six months’ experience of working within a specified system of care that ensures the right pathways of referral on/stepping up and good clinical governance; such as an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service. The six months can include time spent working as a PWP trainee once you have commenced direct patient contact.
  4. You must be accountable for your professional practice to a senior member of your service.
  5. Agree to a sustained commitment to the theory and practice of PWP working.
  6. Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the therapeutic relationship and competence in the development, maintenance and ending of such relationships, via a Supervisor’s Report, which is submitted in advance of your Register application.
  7. You must adhere to the BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics
  8. As part of your clinical work, you must currently be providing a minimum of two hours per week step 2 practice with patients aged 16+ within an adult service. This clinical practice must include both assessment and 1:1 treatment, groups or cCBT. Delivery must be via live interventions e.g. telephone, video or face to face. If cCBT activity is email support only, the two hours would need to include one other form of Step 2 practice listed.

*If you are currently out of practice, please go to our Return to Practice information to re-register as a Wellbeing Practitioner. If you have recently graduated from a PWP training programme and are actively seeking employment, please ask your most recent placement clinical skills supervisor to complete your report.

PWP Supervisor's Reports

Clinical Skills Supervision should be provided by a practitioner who is appropriately qualified and experienced in CBT informed approaches. Supervisors must also be currently practicing and utilising CBT informed approaches. In addition, Supervisors will ideally have completed supervision training on an IAPT Accredited PWP Supervision course.

PWPs should be in receipt of clinical skills and case management supervision in line with the IAPT manual: NHS England » The Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Manual. If you are in receipt of case management supervision only, it must include appropriate clinical skills covering CBT interventions in line with the IAPT manual requirements

One PWP Supervisor’s Report is required and must be submitted before you apply for PWP Registration. This should be from your current PWP Clinical Skills Supervisor. If your case manager provides clinical skills as part of your ongoing case management supervision, then they can complete the report. If your current Clinical Skills Supervisor has been supervising you for less than six months, you must additionally provide a PWP Supervisor's Report from your previous Clinical Skills Supervisor, your current Case Management Supervisor, or your current Service Clinical Lead.

Supervisors should send the report directly to pwp.reports@babcp.com up to one month before the Application is made. If we do not receive a completed application for registration with payment within one calendar month of receiving a Supervisor's Report, the application and report will be deleted.
